๐งฒHow hunger works
When the stomach empties, the hormone ghrelin tells the brain "eat". After eating, leptin from fat cells and other gut hormones say "enough". These signals meet in the brain's hypothalamus.
๐ฌWhy we crave sweet and fried food
Sugary, fatty food triggers dopamine in the brain's reward system, so it feels good and we want it again. Energy-dense food once helped survival; today it is everywhere.
๐ฐStress eating
Stress raises cortisol and many people turn to food for comfort. It is a normal reaction, not weakness, but as a habit it adds weight.
โฑ๏ธWhy eat slowly
Fullness signals take about 20 minutes to reach the brain. Eating fast means overeating before they arrive, and so does eating in front of a screen.
๐ฝ๏ธEnvironment and habits
Big plates, snacks within reach and constant fast-food offers make people eat more. Smaller plates and sweets out of sight help a lot.
Why do people gain weight?
It is not just "eating too much". Many causes work together, so understand them instead of blaming yourself.
Weight gain comes down to energy in versus out, but many things shape both sides.
Raises appetite and lowers energy spent.
Desk jobs and reliance on vehicles cut energy use.
Loaded with sugar, fat and salt but less filling, so we eat more.
Cortisol and comfort eating.
Some bodies store fat more easily. It is not your fault, but habits can offset a lot.
Thyroid problems, PCOS and some medicines can add weight. See a doctor if weight rises suddenly.
Cheap, easy sugary food and a lack of safe places to walk.
The plain truth about burning fat
- You cannot burn fat from one spot only; the body draws from all over.
- Walking, sleep, protein and fibre, and less sugar are the four most lasting habits.
- Crash dieting loses muscle and invites regain. Go slowly, 0.25โ0.5 kg a week.
This is a simplified educational picture; real physiology is more complex. It is not a diagnosis or treatment. See a doctor for weight, diabetes, thyroid or other concerns.
